IT IN KERALA
There are 3 important programmes being implemented in the field of Information Technology in Kerala. They are:
IT @ School Project, Akshaya Project, E-governance Project
The IT@SCHOOL is a project under the Directorate of Public Instruction of the Government of Kerala, which introduces Information Technology in High School Education for qualitative improvement of the conventional teaching / learning system. 
It  is a project for integrating Information Technology and Education. IT@School provides ICT enabled education to 1.6 million students per year in the state.
It is initially implemented in the govt. and private aided high schools. Now it is extended to the lower classes also.  
The programme is aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning process at school, equipping the teachers and students to make maximum use of ICT) available at schools.
The teachers from the selected schools will be trained in IT and ICT to help them train children in various subjects with the aid of technology.
IT@School is the nodal agency for implementing EDUSAT network and runs an exclusive channel for education called 'ViCTERS' (Virtual Classroom Technology on Edusat for Rural Schools).
Main Components of the Project:
1.Computer and infrastructural facilities
2. Software and multimedia materials
3. IT trained teachers
Important Aims:
1. Introduce IT High school curriculum
2.       Use IT as a powerful tool for improving the quality of teaching/learning.
3.       Teach IT as a curricular subject to acquire basic knowledge and skills in a proper way.
AKSHAYA E-PROJECT
Akshaya, an innovative project implemented in the State of Kerala aimed at bridging the digital divide, addresses the issues of ICT access, basic skill sets and availability of relevant content. Quality ICT dissemination and service delivery facilities.
Akshaya  Project was first started in the Malappuram District of Kerala. It was the first district-wide-e-literacy project and also one of the largest wireless network in India.  Akshaya has conducted one of the worlds largest Computer Literacy drives.
Akshaya centres are set up within a maximum of 2 kilometers for any household and networked leveraging entrepreneurship.
The successful progression of this project has lead to its wide spreading to  all other districts. This will facilitate a wide use of ICT by all segments of the Kerala society.
